Waynflete Student has Glamour Session

I find taking portraits of teens very powerful. Maeve is no exception. So much is tied to how we look (or feel like we look) at this point in a girls life. I truly feel like every girl is beautiful and I get to show her how I see that beauty. It's the best part of my job. And whether that is for an adult women or a young women it's a really moving experience.

Even with braces (which I am sure are the bane of every teens existence if they have them) she looks amazing!  Don't you agree?!

Love who you are right now.

Glamour makeover portraits for a dear friend...

This is Kim. I have known her for the last 13 years. She is one of those people that you know and you hear what has happened in her life and you just say "Really!!!??! Wow...How can anyone live through all that and still be so happy all the time!!?!"

She constantly is searching for the positive in people and life. I love that about her. She always makes me laugh! And she truly believes in me. You know that friend that never fails to always say that you will be ok and reassure you and just be there for you. Well, Kim has been that for me over the years.

I wanted to do a glamour session for Kim...which was tricky since we couldn't stop laughing the entire time. But I think I may have managed to capture how beautiful she is nonetheless. Kim you are stunning, both on the inside and on the outside. You rock my friend!

Truly most of the portraits are like these. I love them. (:

Surprise Proposal at Portland Head Light 5.18.13

This proposal turned out to be one of the most anxiety ridden hours for me in a long time. I was so nervous for Brian! I also got the chance to be a spy which was really cool. I have decided I would be a very good agent...if I had a smaller backpack and cameras. (:

Brian called me a few days before this proposal actually took place. As we talked on the phone we realized this would be a little tricky in some ways. As a 'AA' eastern league baseball coach he was in Maine for the Seadogs games in Portland for one week. If the game on Saturday went into extra innings  then he would need to move the proposal to Sunday evening. So I would need to be by the phone and wait for his text that we were set to go. The game went as planned though and Saturday it was!

He wanted to propose here at the Portland Head Light at Ft. Williams in Cape Elizabeth, ME. It is such a beautiful location so it was a natural choice for a romantic surprise proposal. I drove out to meet him so we could figure out exactly where he and Lauen would stand and where I could be in relation to them. And I convinced him to let me take just a few quick portraits of the two of them before they went for dinner at 555 in downtown Portland.

Lauren was obviously surprised and overwhelmed with emotion. She handled everything beautifully including turning around to see me wave at her! She is so very sweet and kind. I was glad to have met them both and been able to capture this momentous event in their lives.

Here are a few of my favorite moments from the evening. I wish them a wonderful wedding and many years of happiness together!!

Make-over Glamour Portraits for Bethany

Bethany is a bride of mine from about 8 years or so ago. I was there at her daughters first birthday party (with my film camera!), took beach portraits of them when she was pregnant with her second daughter, and did family portraits for all of them last year. I was so excited when Bethany finally worked up the nerve to ask me to take glamour portraits of her.

She is shy in front of the camera and not someone who would normally choose to have her own personal portraits taken. But she said that she wanted her daughters to have something to look at and see who she was as they grew older.

The one thing that most of us love to do as time goes by is pull out the family albums and look at old photos. I often think about the portraits I have of my own grandparents that I am so glad I have. I can see how my daughter and I look like them. (:

I love that I get to give women this gift of how beautiful they are. If you know Bethany you know she is funny, artistic, a great mama, and a beautiful person on both the inside and outside. Here is how I see her.

Love who you are. Right now. - Jen

Downtown Portland, Maine Wedding for Kati and Andrew 3/30/13

Kati came to meet me with her mother and maid of honor when she was picking out her photographer. She is one of the most down to earth and easy to get along with people I have had the pleasure of working with. I truly loved her laid back and easy approach to the wedding. Even when she got somewhat stuck trying to get into her dress she kept her cool and went right back to her beautiful giant smile directly afterward.

I loved getting to capture the friends and family portraits right in downtown Portland as the sun was setting. The Old Port is such a beautiful part of the city and I always love taking portraits there.

Andrew and Kati have a wonderful way together and they are truly at ease with each other. Their friends and family obviously adore them. And they all knew how to have a great party! As always Brian Zutter made the dance floor magical with his amazing lighting and great choices for keeping the party going all night!

A huge thank you also to Melanie Voros from Blissful Beginnings for making the day flow so smoothly. And if you want the most amazingly delicious (as well as lovely) wedding cake call Jessica from Nothing Bakes Like A Parrott. Yum! I am proud to be able to work with some of the best wedding vendors in the area and recommend them. (:

So here Kati and Andrew are some highlights of your beautiful day and the beginning of your life together. I thank you for allowing me to get to know you both and capture your love. Cheers to many years of happiness together!!

In love and life...Jen

As always I have started with my favorite portraits from the day.

A beautiful angle taken by amazing assistant Jamie.

So grateful to Jamie for capturing this emotional moment. I love this portrait of Kati's mom Vicky seeing her cross the street.
